Upon booting up my computer this morning i received an error message containing: Error - Auxilliary device failure Keyboard controller failure Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run the setup utility Of course, the oxymoron is that i cant stike any key at all.

I had not changed any settings, nor configurations at all before i turned it off yesterday. This hit me out of nowhere when i turned it on this morning. Im using a rudimentary analog mouse and a a wireless keyboard both using ps-2 connectors.

Ive spent hours searching for fixes for this error using another computer and have tried everything i can find but to no avail, so i thought id ask here. I was able to connect standard ps2 keyboard and a usb mouse and boot to the desktop once. Thinking the problem had magically resolved itself, i rebooted with the problem mouse and keyboard but recieved the same error.

So then i tried booting with the temporary mouse and keyboard, but then only the keyboard worked, which completely baffled me, as i had thought it must be a harward problem with the ps2 ports in the computer.

The other inconsistency is that the borrowed keyboard worked but the original one didnt, although they were using the same ports. Im completely at a loss as to what to do to fix this problem so i was hoping to get some advice from the experts here.

My system specs are: -Dell Dimension series -ATI Radeon c graphics card -Windows XP home edition Im certainly not any kind of expert, so clear instructions would help out alot.

Joined Jun 26, Messages I had a problem similar to yours last month and it was caused by a SP3 update. I couldn't get online to find a fix because the mouse and keyboard drivers would not load on startup so I had to do a clean install.

I have no idea which update caused it. First off, thanks for all your suggestions! Failure at keyboard controller press F1 or F2. And of course I cant press anything because my keyboard in not responding. I tried connecting the 2nd keyboard brand new the same way, gives the same message. Fultiniho Member Member 16 posts. Sometimes it requires a new drive because the part of the drive is damaged, but more often it is a result of a corrupt file system which can be repaired with chkdsk, or copying the file What you do now depends on how technically saavy you are I would pull the bad drive and drop it as a slave in another machine You could also fix this within the current machine but only if you have a working keyboard, which is why I didn't explain that process, but if it is essentially this: Insert a Windows XP CD.

Note: Because I think you have a recovery cd, and not a real windows xp cd it is likely the below steps will not resolve your issue. Reboot the computer, as the computer is starting you should see a message to press any key to boot from the CD.

When you see this message press any key. Select the operating system you wish to fix, and then enter the administrator password. Type exit to reboot the computer. I tried that but I can't even install a new hard drive, it's still not working, I get the same messages. Reply to quoted posts Clear.
